        The College of Arts includes an administration office, the Arts and Design Building, the Music Building, and the spaces belonging to the Interdisciplinary Program of Technology and Art, and the Graduate Institute of Art and Technology. All are currently situated in the Nanda Campus of NTHU.

The Department of Arts and Design

        The Department of Arts and Design occupies an independent complex consisting of the . There are also exhibition spaces, including NHCTC Artist Spaces 1 and 2, the Ze Gallery, the interdisciplinary experiment space, the color vision research lab, the Chu Dao Gallery, and the Lee Tze-Fan Memorial Art Gallery. In recent years, the department has purchased many pieces of important equipment, such as a pulse-jet dust collector, a high lumen projector, a set of full-spectrum display lamps, fixed-focus lens, a physiological monitoring system, and an eye tracker system. Aside from helping teachers conduct their research, the new equipment is also available for relevant courses, exhibitions, graduation projects, and postgraduate research and creations.

 

The Department of Music

        The Department of Music also has an independent complex occupying around 9,653 m2. It houses a professional recording studio equipped with digital audio software, professional multitrack recording equipment, the academic version of music notation software Finale, a contrabassoon, an English horn, tubular bells, conductor’s music stands, and recorders. A Steinway D-274 concert grand piano was purchased for the auditorium hall for student concerts and masterclass lectures. There are two Kawai grand pianos and five Yamaha grand pianos in the teacher research office and student practice rooms. The teaching equipment is continually upgraded to improve the practice environment of students and enhance their learning effectiveness. The department building includes a percussion classroom, an ensemble classroom with two pianos, a masterclass classroom, a creative rest area for students, and a teacher conference room. In recent years, the floors, acoustic panels, and walls of the student practice rooms have also been renovated, and the projector and sound systems in the classrooms have been upgraded to provide students with better spaces for their performances so as to improve practical operations in teaching, increase the depth of knowledge and the aesthetics of life, and create a high-quality environment for teachers and students to learn and live in together.

 

The Interdisciplinary Program of Technology and Art & the Graduate Institute of Art and Technology

        The Interdisciplinary Program of Technology and Art and the Graduate Institute of Art and Technology are located on the third floor of the Second Center of Student Activities in the Nanda Campus. Their spaces include relevant laboratories, including the irtual Art and Audiovisual Game Laboratory, the Art Action Laboratory, and the Digital Aesthetics and Technology Culture Research Laboratory. They also have a large theory classroom, two small teaching classrooms, a creative workspace for students in the Interdisciplinary Program of Technology and Art, and a discussion room for postgraduates in the Graduate Institute of Art and Technology. These venues serve students in both the Interdisciplinary Program of Technology and Art and the Graduate Institute of Art and Technology, and it is hoped that the designs of the curricula and the firm support of the complete facilities can help the students come up with original techno art creations or innovative technological works with social impact or develop more creative application possibilities in their techno art performances or exhibitions.

 

Arts Building (under construction)

        NTHU is currently constructing a College of Arts building in its main campus. It will have four stories and one basement level and occupy over 20,000 m2. The College of Arts building will become a frontline base in promoting liberal and exquisite holistic education and nurturing top talents in art. In addition to piano rooms, craft media classrooms, western painting classrooms, a percussion classroom, a professional recording studio, and a physical development and theater classroom, there will also be a digital media-assisted craft product design laboratory, a 3D virtual reality laboratory, an interactive installation art classroom, a kinetic art classroom, a computer music and sound art classroom, a multimedia audio-visual engineering classroom, exhibition spaces, and performance and creative spaces where teachers and students can realize their interdisciplinary creations.
